attaining heights of 100 to 150 feet, with diameters of 24 - 48 inches, sometimes
reaching 6 feet. Massaranduba trees are usually swollen at the base, and boles are
often straight and clear to about 60 feet.
Grain: The grain is straight, slightly wavy or
interlocked with a very fine texture.
Massaranduba is one of the finest products available for
exterior decking. Few decking materials combine the beauty of real wood with
natural durability, strength and easy maintenance. Massaranduba is well-known
throughout South America and Europe as one of the hardest and most durable species
available.
Massaranduba is an environmentally responsible alternative to
chemically treated or composite decking products. Nearly blemish free, Massaranduba
is strong enough to use 1" boards in place of 5/4" or 2" boards.
Massaranduba is a dark red wood which will fade to a
silver gray if left untreated. To retain its vibrant color, an oil based finish
with ultraviolet inhibitors is recommended. Regular cleaning and reapplication of
finish will ensure that the wood retains its luster for many years.
