Return to Ipanema Decking Home
>All ipanema decking materials are kiln-dried to an average of 15% moisture content before undergoing any milling and are then milled without showing manufacturing defects as well as to have uniform dimensions.
>The hardwood must not have any decay or rot. Only a minimal amount of sapwood is allowed, not to exceed 10% of the width of any individual piece of wood or one foot in length on the edges. No begining decay caused by fungi is allowed either. Only a minimal amount of discoloration caused by chemical reactions or weathering is permitted.
>All ipanema decking boards must be structurally sound and maintain their original strength. Tiny worm-holes that don't impair the strength of the wood are permitted, buy only if they are very few in number and not excessive to the point where they will detract from the overall appearance of the boards. No worm-holes of over 1/8" in diameter are allowed, unless they are first properly sanded and then sealed.
>Surface checking or other types of defects from the drying process are permitted - but only if they are not excessive at all. Extensive checking, twisting or excessive splitting are not accepted or permitted in any instance. Checking is considered to be excessive when the appearance of a decking board is (obviously) impaired by the abnormal presence of checks on its surface and it appears substantially different from a good, sound board.
>When applied at the factory, the coating on the decking boards must be uniform, evenly applied and provide protection for all four sides of the board. A sealant must also be applied to both ends of every piece of deck board during the installation of the deck.
>Ipanema hardwood decking must be regularly maintained and taken care of with a product that is suitable whenever the original color starts to change or fade. Contact your sale representative from San Antonio Wholesale Lumber for assistance in selecting the right product.
>DO NOT apply any of the folllowing substances to your Ipanema decking under any circumstances: creosote, pentachlorophenol, preserving salts or chlorides.
>Stains developing from ventilation stickers when drying are not considered to be a defect, however they shouldn't be excessive showing strongly through the coating or highly visible in numerous boards of any given lot.
